Affordable Care Act

The National Hispanic Leadership Agenda was active in advocating in support of the Latino community's health care needs as Congress considered and passed the Affordable Care Act (ACA). We believe that in order to reverse the disparity between the health status of Latinos and the population at large, public policy must focus on expanding health insurance to the 30 percent of Latinos without coverage, investing in prevention and improving the cultural and linguistic competence of our health care professionals. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) lays the foundation for addressing many of concerns about health disparities and, in upholding the ACA in June 2012, the Supreme Court affirmed the federal government’s constitutional power to provide national solutions to national problems, including lack of health coverage.
